Looking into the Mirror with your Relationship with Food, Fitness, and Health

Relationship with Food as a Mirror

The above quote is a very interesting way to look at things, and I couldn’t agree more with what Dr. John Berardi from Precision Nutrition has to say!

I can relate – when I was most “at war” with food, exercise, and trying to lose weight, I felt overwhelmed, like a failure, anxious, and out of control with most things going on in my life, despite trying to be a “control freak” and make everything go “perfectly” my way.

As I learned to relax, find balance, enjoy the journey, and be at peace with myself and my past, suddenly, it was easy, almost effortless to find a natural rhythm with healthy eating, regular exercise, and a healthy body weight that was right for me. Not only that, but my closest relationships flourished and deepened, and from the chaos, my life transformed into something completely different as I became a calmer, more confident, happy, and joyful person.

mirror

The same is often true for many of the nutrition clients I work with. It really isn’t “about the food”, and a lot of the coaching I do in our nutrition sessions is focused around helping people to face what they see in the mirror when they take an honest look, as well as figuring out what a healthy relationship with food, exercise, and health means to them (versus a pre-conceived notion of what it “should” be).

Good nutrition and healthy living go so much deeper than “perfecting” your food and fitness choices… if you’re willing to be honest enough to “look in the mirror” to really see the truths in your life.

Wishing you health & happiness,

Jen
