The Difference Between Goals and Excellent Execution

I’d like to share some thoughts on #winning and #goals vs. aiming for #excellence in execution.

Have you ever met someone who is completely hung up on achieving a very specific outcome such as winning a competition or attaining a really specific goal, for example:

• I must lose __xx__ pounds before my wedding.
• I need my weight to be under __xx__ amount or be __xx__ body fat %.
• I want to have a lean appearance and have super ripped abs.
• I need to win my upcoming competition.

Although these concepts might feel motivating, it often creates goal-obsession without necessarily developing a commitment to personal excellence. Short cuts are often taken, long-term sustainability is ignored, and the ends often justify the means to get “there”.

What about instead of trying to get “there”, you turn your focus inwards. You get quietly to work at executing the small but important details that are in your direct control and make you a better YOU. You channel your energy, focus, thoughts, and actions into the process of 💜EXCELLENT EXECUTION💜. Excellent form. Excellent effort. Excellent adherence to your plan. For example:

• I’m going to eat more veggies by filling up my lunch and dinner plate with 50% vegetables.
• I’m going to commit to exercising 4x/week in ways I enjoy.
• I’m going to try to eat my food more #slowly + #mindfully by eating 80%+ of my meals distraction-free, sitting down at a table.
• When I’m feeling stressed and craving junk food, I’m going to push myself to find another way to cope with my emotions without turning to food.
• I’m going to prep some healthy work snacks in advance on Sundays.
• I’m going to practice weekly meal planning to ensure I eat more home-cooked food.
• When I feel like I’ve messed up, I’m going to practice self-compassion and resiliency, dust myself off, and keep going despite a minor setback.

When you breed PERSONAL EXCELLENCE into your mindset, #success is the pleasant “side effect” that just happens to come along for the ride. ❤️💛💚💙
