Student Learning Opportunities

Undergraduate Students

Are you a highly motivated, dependable, and professional Foods & Nutrition undergraduate student looking for an amazing volunteer opportunity to enhance your résumé and gain experience working closely with a Registered Dietitian? Each year, NutritionRx requires a team of dedicated volunteers to assist with a variety of nutrition-related tasks, including:

  • Computerized Diet Analysis working with ESHA Food Processor SQL
  • Nutrition handout development
  • Recipe analysis and development
  • Newsletter writing
  • Creation of educational nutrition displays
  • Self-directed nutrition projects

All training will be provided by a Registered Dietitian or Senior Nutrition Volunteer. In return for your time commitment, you’ll have the opportunity to sit in and observe client counselling sessions and will gain valuable clinical experience in preparation for a dietetic internship. A Letter of Reference will also be provided upon request.

If you are willing to commit 2-5 hours/week for a 4-month volunteer term, we are interested in hearing from you. Please email a copy of your resume and cover letter to Limited to five volunteer contracts per 4-month term.

All student volunteer positions are currently filled for the summer term. New applications will next be accepted between August 1-31, 2014 for consideration for the fall term (September – December 2014).

Dietetic Interns

Are you a dietetic intern looking for a clinical placement in private practice? One- to four-week long internship placements may be arranged by contacting NutritionRx after speaking with your Dietetic Internship Coordinator to make the necessary arrangements. Volunteer Positions Available with an RD & Chef to Help with Healthy Meal Preparation

Hi my name is Lindsay Sferrazza and I’m a chef currently running a private catering business under NutritionRx with Registered Dietitian Jennifer Broxterman. Our mission is to promote nutritious meals for busy people, and we are looking for 5-6 dedicated volunteers to lend a hand in the preparation of ingredients for these healthy meals.

Main duties will include:

  • washing and cutting up of fruits and vegetables
  • cooking and assembly of meals
  • packaging and labeling of meals
  • clean up

If you have a car, the location of the food prep is approximately a 5-minute drive from campus. The closest major intersection I live near is Fanshawe Park Road and Adelaide (2 blocks away).  If interested, please send a resume to chef Lindsay Sferrazza at by Friday March 1, 2013 at 4:00pm. Currently this is a volunteer position but with the opportunity for promotion to a part-time paid position as the business grows and if commitment level remains high and a positive work ethic is shown.
